How I Keep My Business Rooted in Faith as a Christian Business Owner

If you’re a Christian business owner, here are the daily and weekly practices that help me keep my business grounded in faith and focused on the Lord. I’m not perfect, but these practices keep my eyes focused on the One who is. From how I start my day to my every moment, I hope you find this helpful for your business and faith journey!

Watching the Sunrise

Watching the sunrise starts my day in complete awe of God’s goodness. It’s a time to pause, pray, and move my body before I even open my laptop. Some days the sunrise is gloomy, and others it’s a vibrant orange, but the sun will always rise, and that’s a big testament to who God is.

(Plus! There are huge health benefits to getting morning light for regulating our circadian rhythm. How cool is that!?)

Weekly Sabbath as a Christian Business Owner

The Sabbath is a day to delight in the Lord and rest from all work. For me, this looks like reading God’s Word, spending time with friends and family who fill my cup, going on prayer walks, and doing hobbies I enjoy.

It also means no work or social media for 24 hours. Because let’s be real, endlessly scrolling through others' lives is not true rest, even if you’re “resting” on the couch. Not going on social media helps me be grateful for all that I have and spend more time on soul-filling activities. I also try to avoid TV or stimulation during meals. This day is a chance to slow down, be present to the moment, and allow the opportunity for God to speak to me.

Not working is a hard one, especially as a Christian business owner who loves what I do, but even God rested on the 7th day. Let that sink in! The Creator of the universe rested (Genesis 2:2-3)! I’m constantly reminding myself that God can do more with my rest than my hustle.

Besides business-related work, I also try to avoid big cleaning tasks and home projects. What helps me with this is preparing for the Sabbath a day or two before. For example, on Friday evenings, I like to pick up the house and put away laundry so I can relax over the weekend. This is very countercultural to our society’s “Sunday Reset,” but there are 6 other days you can deep clean.

I didn’t honor the Sabbath until I read the book “The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry” by John Mark Comer. It changed my life, and I highly recommend it if you're interested in learning how to slow down your life around the practices of Jesus. I’m not perfect about it, but I look forward to this time of rest each week, and God meets me there. And remember, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath” - It’s a gift!

Inviting God into Every Moment

Whether it’s client work, workouts, or washing the dishes—I invite God into the mundane, not just the big moments. It’s easier to remember to pray before a discovery call or making an investment for your business, but it's also important to pray over what may seem small, like your Instagram posts or your schedule for the day. God wants to guide us through every step of our day! He’s the best Dad!

“So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” (1 Corinthians 10:31)

Spending Time in Community

Entrepreneurship can be very self-focused. It may not seem that way if your business serves others, but growing a business can consume my thoughts sometimes. But thankfully, community keeps me others-focused. Having close friendships directs my thoughts and prayers to my loved ones. And friends who pray for my business are the biggest blessing.

Praying for My Clients as a Christian Business Owner

My business wouldn't be here if it weren't for my clients. I started this business to serve creatives, and what better way to serve them than to pray for them! For their business, for their clients, for their life outside of work—try praying over your clients before client work!

Gratitude for What God’s Already Given Me

There’s always room to grow as a Christian entrepreneur, but where I am today, I was praying for months ago. I never want to downplay God’s blessings. His timing is always best, so I will trust Him with where I am and pray boldly for growth in His Will.

Keeping a prayer journal has helped me a ton with keeping track of answered prayers! Looking back and physically seeing how God’s working in my life is so incredible. And sometimes my prayers aren't answered the way I want them to, and I can look back and see why something didn't work out.

Surrendering My Business as a Christian Business Owner

This business is ultimately His, and I only want His Will to be done. This one can be hard for me. Sometimes I think I’ve surrendered, but then I continue to do things on my own. This takes intentionality, auditing the things that I am doing, and constantly praying throughout the day.

Ultimately, I operate my business with full faith and trust in Him to provide. I do what I can and leave the rest in His hands, believing He will multiply my five loaves and two fish.

Growing in Faith Through Business

Once again, I don’t follow these perfectly, but His grace never ceases to amaze me. He has grown my faith like never before through this business, and I’m so thankful for my relationship with Him. I’d love to know if any of these resonated with you and what you do to keep your business rooted in faith. Send me a DM on Instagram and let me know!
